Writing 20 Minutes a Day

March has just begun, and I want to welcome the month with a writing challenge!

I want to write for twenty minutes every day during the month of March, excluding Sundays.

And that’s just the easy part.

The idea is that during the twenty minute segment I’ll be writing without stopping and without backspacing. So, to accomplish this, I need to give myself word count goals.

So, by the end of the month, I hope to be able to write 1,000 words in the twenty minutes.

I currently average about 200-230 words in five minutes, but it’s hard to keep that up for twenty minutes.

The goal behind this is to develop a writing habit. Also, I’m a slow writer, and I tend to stress over each sentence, trying to perfect it. This is good for revising but it hinders my writing. I need to focus on getting the story out rather than perfecting each sentence during the first draft.

Check back for updates! And join me on the “20 minutes a day” writing challenge!
